Harper's Darkness by Billie Sue Mosiman

Harper is a contract killer. He is teamed with a partner that has unusual tastes and killing methods.

Georgie is a little boy who lives downstairs, his parents are demons or aliens he is not quite sure.

Harper is trying to save for a new life, but also concerned about Georgie, when goes into his apartment to help him one evening all sorts of monsters are let loose.

BSM is magic with her writing skills, she manages to describe a scene and you are taken there, shrunken and absorbed into the book.

The bonus content is generous and I guarantee you will want to buy the book!! I loved it and am looking forward to the next instalment, Angelique is a true horror story.

People of the Tower by Billie Sue Mosiman

Firstly, I love, love, LOVE the cover (by Jeffrey Kosh) how spooky is that!

It actually sets the mood for this short story really well. Ketty & Max are on the road travelling to visit her Mum when they decide, well Ketty decides and Max acquises, to the scenic route, however this soon gets them lost.

After two long days traveling and two spooky nights in horrid motels with only dorritos for dinner, nightmares which fuel a lack of sleep, stinky covers and bed bugs, one of their nightmares come true.

Totally loved the ending! what a surprise! and watch out for the frog on the anthill (made me snort!)

Cyberchip by Billie Sue Mosiman

Cory is annoyed with his life in general, his job, his boss, his ex-best friend, his soon to be ex-wife, so now he is acting out revenge.

After trialing a tracking chip on himself he discovers a unique talent,  he  then goes on an almost murderous spree; almost as each attempt fails and lands the target in hospital instead, seems he can’t if do that correctly.

Soon he notices that the apes in the lab are acting strange towards him and karma comes to call.

Left on a brilliant twisty note this little story held me engrossed for half an hour and then left me with a satisfied smile.

Fabulous writing and strange little stories spring from this authors mind!

The Mask & The Old Hands by Billie Sue Mosimen

The Mask: Joe & The Mask have a connection - at least in Joes mind.

Leftover from a party Joe finds the Mask laying on his coffee  table as he comes around from a heavy night of drinking.

Through the conversation with the Mask you learn all the horrid things that Joe has done as he slowly confesses.

But is the Mask really talking? and walking? Or his he hallucinating, again.
For a 20min read this little story really freaked me out.

The power of the mind is strong and BSM does her best to mess with yours (the reader).

Old Hands:  George has Old Hands, but they are not his.

The WHO had declared this a new viral pandemic and George and his wife have caught it.

But these are not just old, wrinkly Hands - they are mean, vile and have a will of their own.

However, George and his wife have a solution, an illegal solution; although its soon clear that people should be careful what they wish for.

Again, another fantastic twist in the ending, total brilliance.

BSM brings a unique thought to the apocalyptic disease table.

I loved the line "a wet cat kind of day".

The Grey Matter by Billie Sue Mosiman

Naughty BSM for saying “I think you will like this story” to me, as bang went my productive Saturday afternoon. What an amazing opening paragraph, I dare you to read it and not want to finish the book.

There is a sadistic killer living amongst the gentle folk on the Mountain.    John Grey knows what he is, he likes what he is, he is well skilled in his pretense of normality, but he likes killing, he needs to kill.

Just down from his den of torture is Caleb’s cabin, a teenage boy that has already made his fortune.  This allows him to provide a place of safety, a home, to his long abused friends; Abe, Ben & Josie, not forgetting Gabby the dog.

You cannot help but be envious of this wonderful friendship, even the obvious love triangle between the three boys and Josie, is treated among them as a source of strength and joy; the loyalty and love they feel for each other is clearly described, and played upon, by BSM.

Her ability to create characters that feel real and then insist that you care about them is amazing. It’s easy to see why she is nominated so often for awards.

When the EMP bombs are dropped, the lights go out and life changes for everyone in the small town and those on the Mountain, the struggle for survival just became harder, especially with a killer in their midst.   The devastation portrayed by BSM in the failing of modern culture and how people turn on each other was more terrifying than any zombie horde.

When John starts to “slip” mentally his killing becomes uncontrolled.  Friendships are now about to be tested to the limit. BSM has now ratcheted up the tension.

With law enforcement having left the town or left their own minds, the townsfolk so hungry they turn to “who knows what”, the safety of the cabin soon becomes the center of a blood bath.

The last quarter of the book is so tense my teeth hurt from the clenching.

Even when I thought it was over I turned the page to find more stalking, more horror and more murders, exquisitely described by BSM in her gentle way that left me bug eyed.

Happy ending? Good guys beat out the bad guys?? No spoilers here, but hang on to your pants because this is a wild ride into hell with no end in sight.

Sleep No More by Billie Sue Mosiman

This is a great new novella from BSM and even in the first paragraph you know you are in for a treat as the overload of wonderful description takes you into a scary place.

Sasha Potter can’t sleep in her jail cell, as she thinks over the horrific night that she got caught up in.

It appears that from a young age she was headed for a life of crime, even though her Granddaddy warned her “life was to wonderful too spend in jail”, this did not stop her from this path.

Sasha is a complex character, hard to like despite the love she was given as a child as she still has many wicked thoughts and a bad habit of picking the wrong guy and this one is a real doozy; with her brains and his muscle they set about targeting a new victim to burglarise.
However, in true BSM style it also goes wrong and the body chopping starts, then the lying, the blaming and eventually the police and judgement.

Is the punishment or the crime worse?

Such a sad tale, it felt like a relief at the end for Sasha. I really enjoyed the little twist at the end and was glad it had this ending and not a cop out.

BSM writing style is easy to read but don’t let that fool you into thinking you won’t have to concentrate on her plots and intrigue.

Jennifer Thomas reviews Billie Sue Mosiman part 3

Jennifer Thomas gives more of her wonderful reviews of the brilliant Billie Sue Mosiman.

How much loss can one person handle in their lives? How much can one 15 year old girl handle on her own? Well I have to say that in this novel you will come close to finding out.

Angie just wants to fit into a new home and a new town but the local boy, Tyeson Dompier, who has taken a liking to her ends up making her new Southern life a nightmare in which she feels like she will never wake from. All she wants is happiness after the loss of her mother and for her and her father to be happy again.

Jason Thorton moved him and is daughter to Moon Lake Mississippi for a fresh beginning but he is forced to watch his daughter become more and more pained in this new town where it seems happiness will never find his sweet girl. He doesn't know what is going on and struggles to encourage her to give the new town and the kids at her school a chance. As he hopes things will fall into place for her he begins to notice that happiness may never find her there.

This novel is full of suspense and horror and is a great read. This emotionally charged story line will have you hanging on to every word as the horror unfolds throughout your imagination.

We are always told that everything happens for a reason and I do believe that.

This story not only follows that line of thought but also gives the reasoning that if it was meant to happen then that is the was it will always be and no matter how far technology goes the past will forever be the same.

I'm not a werewolf fan so I put off reading this story for a long time and after reading it I'm sorry I did.

Joey never had an easy life, being mistreated and picked on and even ignored when he was in pain. Too bad they never got a chance to regret their actions.

The wound they thought was just from him being clumsy is so much more. When his world changes will the be around long enough to realize their ignorance is their downfall?

Read this awesome short and find out!

I have to admit that when I first started this novel I didn't know what direction it was going take but then I was sucked in. The flow of the story line and the development of the characters is amazing.

Karl has no idea who is turning his life upside down or why but when people start dying he knows that whoever is doing it won't stop until they get whatever it is they want.

The reality that what this person wants is for him to no longer be alive is almost too much for him to bare. And what makes it even worse is when things start to come together and he finds out that a secret Hollywood project could hold some clue as to what is happening he is bound by secrecy and has no one to turn too.

I really enjoyed this novel and recommend it to mystery fans everywhere.

This is around 22 pages of page turning awesome!

When Brie first discovers that her temper is not only bad but truly flammable it scares her to no end but once she learns that she has no need to fear her new capabilities her live expands.

Little does Brie know that her life is about to be the happiest it has ever been. She meets Trey, the soon to be love of her life ans biggest supporter. Neither she or Trey can imagine how their life together will turn out.

From the very first page of this book I was drawn into this amazing historical world that Billie Sue Mosiman paints with her words.

My heart breaks more than once in this book for the main female character, Rose Donahue. But she is so strong that you just know that she can overcome anything that she has to endure.

The main male in this book will capture your heart with his kindness and compassion. Travis is a mighty force to be reckoned with and as his love grows he knows that his life will always be complete as long as he has the woman he loves.

The villain of this story is a non stop beast who is surprised at himself for what he is doing. But his obsession with the one he considers his will not let him stop.

When you open this book you don't read it, you hop on the wagon trail and ride along through the adventure for family, gold and a place to call home.

I have to begin by saying that I love the original Frankenstein. Being a fan of Billie Sue Mosiman I knew even before I began this book that I would be surprised by her words and once again I was not let down.

This novelette captures you imagination from the first page and pulls you into one mans world as he hunts for Dr. Frankenstein's monster to find out once and for all if twenty years after the doctors death if his creation still lives.

This becomes his obsession. Even though he may not live to find the truth he has to push forward and know if the one creature who has haunted his mind for twenty long years lives or if it has passed in the frozen wastelands of the arctic tundra.

What he finds and the loss he experiences is more than one man can handle and the worse thing of all is he finds out just how bad the human race can hate and fear the unknown.

Another great and fascinating read by Billie Sue Mosiman. This book not only lets you see what is going on inside the mansion walls but leads you through the pain, fear and hurt of the characters within.

I love that Billie Sue was able to bring back her character, Jack DeShane, from her novel Wireman for me being a fan of her writing and of that book it was like a sweet surprise getting to see an old friend.

This short story is very emotional from the very beginning. It starts with a man who doesn't want to sit and watch is family die and turns in to a horror that no man should ever have to face.

I have never read a zombie story like this, where you can learn through the eyes of a dead man what it means to want to live

This outstanding collection takes you through the world of witch craft and throws a killer in the mix just for fun. These stories will engage your mind and leave you with a feeling of wonder.

These are great stories of suspends and magic with a pretty boy thrown in just do give you the feeling of fear that will leave you wondering just who is the wolf in sheep's clothing.

I highly recommend this book of stories along with The Subway Collection book 1 if you love to have something to read on the go or in the comfort of your home. The suspense that leaps from the pages will leave you longing for more.

Prosper is a man on the edge of his life in prison who does just what needs to be done.

I agree with Prosper, he is not an innocent man but he got the wrong end of the stick. Then there is Dr. Prentice Forbes aka Hammurabi. He is a very twisted man who gets just what he deserves.

This is a very edgy and gritty story that will in the end leave you with a feeling of both loss and justice.

Imagine living your life knowing that you are different and wondering day in and day out if there is anyone in the great wide world you can trust. How awful must it be? Are there creatures out in the world wondering the same thing?

Now imagine you found something you are starting to put your trust in, not just something but a something of the opposite sex. Something that seems to be taking care of you. Then the horror as that trust comes crashing around you as your world is turned upside down.

Yep, you get all of that and so much more within the pages of this story!

Great and fun read.

Jennifer Thomas reviews Billie Sue Mosiman part 2

Some more wonderful reviews of Billie Sue Mosiman by guest blogger Jennifer Thomas.

This novel starts off strong and stays that way throughout.

From the time you meet Angelique you know that this fallen creature will always want the best of everything. She has deemed herself queen and intends to stay that way through all time.

She is one of heaven's fallen angels and has been on this earth before but after spending so many thousands of years banished from heaven she could not take another minute in the outreaches and must find life with humans once more.

When she makes it into human form it is not what she had wished it to be but she will make the best of what she was given. After hundreds of years spent having humans care for her it was time for her to call one of her kind to help and care for her as only a servant that can live as long as she can.

She calls upon Nisroc, a fallen like she but she knows he can hold his place and care for her. But Nisroc has something she will never have, a love for the human creatures. He actually loves Gods beloved humans and wishes more than anything to be a part of them.

To be honest I could go on for hours about this book but I don't want to slip out anything that would mess it up for any one else, so I will leave after I say a few more things.

The writing and story line flows wonderfully and there was never a moment of confusion that I have had with other Fallen Angel stories. The characters are amazing and just detailed enough to give the mind something to lean on as they come into or leave the story.

There were times of sadness, anger and loss that all added to the emotional suspense that lay in waiting in the pages of this book.

In this book of 3 shorts you get horror, obsession, fear and despair written in true Billie Sue Mosiman fashion.

In The Court Of The Invisible, when Mel finally finds out what her tarot cards are trying to tell her it is too late for her to do anything about it. For most of her adult life she has turned to the cards to guide her and has always lived happy, but the one thing she doesn't understand drives her to keep turning the cards.

The Shape Of Its Absence, This story pulled at my heart strings in it horror and sadness. Cora Lee just wants to be left well enough alone and live on her land, in her house and safe from the world, but her kids just can't leave well enough alone. As I read this I was pulled in and I think this is the most emotional story in the book.

Down By The Riverside, when a father must tell his son that he has to leave his home and live with his uncle because his time on this earth is about to end, the grown man who is only a child in his mind takes matters into his own hands and grows up just a tad as he realizes that no matter what you fear there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Great short story book.

This is a great set of 3 short stories. They are a quick read but you don't feel cheated in any way because the details are there.

Life Near the Bone, You find out what happens when a man takes philosophy too far and looses his mind.

Antidote, you get a look into a very unique vampire story and what takes place in a vampire world where it is kill or be killed.

Rosa Two-Cents a man finds out what happens when you leave not only a debt but a promise un-paid.

This is only my take on the stories, you will have to read it yourself to see if you agree. I highly recommend this set too everyone who enjoys suspense and horror.

This novel has so much going on and so many characters that it is like 3 books rolled into one meeting in the middle to blow your mind.

I'm a sensitive reader and wear my heart on my sleeve and there were some part of this book that were hard for me to read, but as with all of Billie Sue Mosiman's books you get pulled in from the beginning and can't stop reading until the tale is told.

This tale for me is on of Loss, love and the need to forget the most horrible past and a search for a new and happy future, but sadly that is not meant to be for any of the unforgettable characters in this novel. With each character you meet along the way you are able to feel their impact on the story and they will stay with me for a long time.

This is an incredible book and well worth the read. I highly recommend it to all.

Billie Sue Mosiman wastes no time digging right into this story and in doing so grabbing your heart and taking your emotions to the brink.

This is not just a story of the loss of a child it is more. I can only imagine how hard this story was to write. The power of the words are enough to bring just about any reader to tears and the loss of a child is a nightmare for any parent and that makes this story that much stronger but this story is also about the ability to move on.

The main character in this story is so well written that you are able to feel her pain through the word.

I highly recommend this story but be aware that it is very emotional and you may need many tissues at hand.

This is an emotional and gripping tale of what Gloria has lived with all for the support of the man she loves.

Growing up knowing she was different and picked on by her school mates was one thing Gloria had dealt with her entire life and finding someone who loves her and makes her feel like a whole person is more than she could ever wish for.

But for this poor woman it just opens up a whole new world of nightmares that she has to find a way to escape. She tried to repent in her on way for her soul knowing what was going on within the walls of her husbands special room was wrong. She had known it since the beginning but now she must stop it. She cannot live with it any longer and she has a plan.

You must read this amazing horrific suspense to find out if her plan works but be warned this is a dark place you will be visiting.

This is a great short story. When you stat reading you figure this is a story about an old man confessing his sins but you soon realize that it is much more.

The thing about this story is it just goes to show you never know what evil hides within the people we come in contact with on a daily basis.
This book is so full of suspense and terror that there are times where you want to put it down but you know if you do it will drive you over the edge because you have to know what happens.

Most of the story is told by Emily, she is the 10 year old daughter of a fifth grade school teacher and a cop. Her life has never been easy and she has lived with fear that most children her age never have to know. Having no friends, only her parents, who are far from having a normal and loving relationship.

As bad as there life is, with a divorce in the cards and the family being separated you would never think it could get worse and then on one of the last vacations as a family their life takes another turn into the even deeper depths of hell.

This is a compelling read that will command every bit of your attention from beginning to end.

Jennifer Thomas reviews Billie Sue Mosiman part 1

Jennifer Thomas is loved by many authors for her honest and wonderful reviews. How she finds time to read such a variety and amount is beyond me as she is always on the "go" with two beautiful sons and a wonderful husband. When not entrenched in family life she can often be found at virtual launch parties on FB supporting new authors and books. I look forward to having her guest on my blog many more times in the future!

What if you watched your parents die and you were the only one who knew the truth. You cannot only hear the thoughts of others but of things around you and all you want to do with all of your life is stop the evil that killed the only people who loved you more than life itself.

This is what Linda has to live through and wants to build her strength to fight back against the things that took her parents.

This is a great and powerful suspense thriller that will leave you hanging on the end of every word all the way to the last.

This book is not just about a killer, not just about a runaway girl and not just about the father who wants his daughter back. It is so much more. This is a fast paced suspense filled book about fear and a wasted life of a man who could have been so much more if not for the torment he received as a child.

Billie Sue takes you through the world of night living for a killer who can not stand the day and the rules set by any man or law. His lives by his own rules and just wants to have a witness along for the ride. One thing about this book is after you read it you will be glad just to be alive.

This is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last word.

Carla is a very strong minded young woman who watched the man who killed her sister walk free to be able to continue to murder more innocent people. Her and her brother-in-law both hold a hatred to strong for this man that they follow him to put a stop to him once and for all. Little do they know this will lead to the worse night of their lives, and the book only gets better from there.

Billie Sue writes such believable characters for this book that you cannot help but to get emotionally wrapped up in the words. This book has such a cold hearted killer and victims who have to fight for what they love. I was brought to tears as I felt the loss of life with in these masterful pages.

Wireman is a book about a serial killer like no other. How are the police supposed to understand the mind of a serial killer that has no pattern. This book reaches into the darkness and plays on quite a few fears that each of us have, the main one being, are we ever safe.

This book will have your emotions going in so many different directions that it just adds to the suspense and over all fear that you are left with till the very end. This is a must read book for any horror reader or anyone who loves a good dark mystery.

Billie Sue has such a wonderful way of making all of her characters so real to the readers that you cannot help but to be pulled into every sentence of the book.
Thank you Billie Sue for all you do!!

This is such a great trilogy, Billie Sue takes you not only through the life of the usual vampire but through the lives of two other types you would never even think of.

Through thousands of years vampires have walked the earth with the humans and they never knew they existed. Would you ever dream that one of your coworkers that you see everyday was a vampire? Can you imagine having to work all of your immortal life just to try to afford the blood that you and your family need to survive just so you can live like a human?

Have you ever thought of a vampire having to live on welfare because of the life path they chose and don't have the ability or want to, to be able to get the blood they need to live?

And of course you have the top of the game vampires that are the ones who run the blood banks to make sure the demand for the blood supply is met.

There are so many characters in these books that you get to meet and live their lived through the incredible words that this outstanding author lays out for you.

Trust me I could go on for days about these books, but I think it would be better for you to just read it for yourself. You will not be disappointed I promise you that.

It is often the kindest of hearts and most sensitive of souls that hurt the easiest.

Willie has a heart as big as the moon and plenty of love to give if only given the chance. The one thing he was happiest doing was hunting and that is what his mother knew and his brother failed to understand.

Having the mind of a child well into his 30's made him a target for ridicule and not even his brother was beyond causing pain of heart to this kind soul.

Wonderful dialogue and memorable characters.

This is one of those short stories that makes you think. When you see someone or something different what goes through your mind? How strange does something have to be before it bothers you? Well when it comes to Carnival Freak it is the monsters on the outside of the glass you have to worry about.

The 5 people in this story learn that they are not as well hidden from the world as they once thought and that the evil that lays in their hearts and souls can be seen by the thing they never thought could exist. When they are offered the extra sneak peak at the freak that they are promised is like nothing they have ever seen each of them soon learn that they are the true monsters of the world.

Mary Beth learns more about herself than she ever wanted to after her visit to the Carnival and the lesson she learns changes her life forever.
